Do we need sick leaves?
'We are unkown, we knowers, ourselves to ourselves'. You may say, this is a bit audacious statement to start with, or ostensibly ostentatious, for the subject of the matter is quite, what is the word, simple, and far from evoking any psychological contemplation. But I beg to differ. Veering a wee bit off-topic, by now I know I have lost majority of my audience and only the true jaded ones are left reading, which makes me quite relieved. And yes I beg to differ. It is possible to gain knowledge of ones character from the pettiest of things if one is a keen observer, also if one is sufficiently aloof to think of all these sort of things.
Yes like most of us I am a software engineer. And yes like most of us SEs I live in . It is a city of SEs. If you listen hard and the music is low you can hear people on other tables talking about java. Do not doubt the verisimilitude of that statement.
So I was tired of the useless work in office. Also the other usual stuff, I never wanted to be a part of the herd, wanted to be creative etc.etc. Then one day I contracted diarrhea, which lasted a week and was on and off for a month. In that period I took an LOP(leave without pay) though i was not seriously ill, but was a bit more, say, unwilling to go. Then it struck me, it is absolutely in the bounds of propriety to take a leave if you are unwell, no matter how the properties of your illness are different from that of your work. It is very well possible for me to go to work with a sore leg or a mild head ache or a bad digestion. I have to sit on a chair all day and type things on a computer. What we don't heed to and completely disregard is our will. One's will is much underrated in this time and age where hatred for hedonism is kind of dogmatic. Jog your memory, why did you take a leave last time? I would suggest you to take at least one leave per month as per your will and spend the day the way you want to, sleep the whole day if you want. And next time your manager asks why you were not in office yesterday, you should speak the truth, 'was not willing to come'. maybe not.
P.S. being my first blog I don't know how this works and hope this is anonymous. Also thanks if you read the whole thing.
