mark of a New Era
I was wondering about the extent to which we have focused on science and technology for the last hundreds of years. And for past few decades, how we have been improving computer technology, the fast multi-core processors and what not. The younger generation, with all the gigabytes and terabytes, often looks back, and remarks on the difficulty to operate with only a few megabytes.
I was wondering what if we had focused on our human brain, for a decade or so, researched and trained it to for multitasking. I mean like reading a book and doing homework at the same time. And soon, after the arduous training, you would be doing several different things, assignments, cooking, and listening to an audio book, all at once. And maybe, watching a movie along with that. Anyway, I think that would mark a new era, and people from the future would wonder, how could they manage in those single-thought-at-a-time years?
In 70 years of your life, if you multitask at least 2 things at once, every working hour, you would have accomplished 140 years worth of shit.
Let me start this experiment then, I will start by listening to rap and code at the same time. I do sometimes code listening to other forms of music. But there is something about rap, that I cannot code along with it.
And that thing about Pavlov's Dogs, he kind of trained them in a way. What if we start training animals to train other animals. Would it bring a change in the whole species? For instance, I think, they trained dolphins to operate in war. Or seagulls... they trained Seagulls to spot submarines. I don't remember. What if you trained something funny to some dolphins and also train them to train other dolphins that. And then restored them in the wild.
That would be my second non-technical psychological experiment then, I will train my dog to train other dogs and see how it goes. I'll have to get a dog first, and for that, a job.

Nice. But, efficiency in multitasking is still a myth, my friend. You can train your brain to multitask with better efficacy, but your overall efficiency will still not be greater than someone who did the same jobs without multitasking. There are technical reasons for it.
ReplyDeleteThere's already a human subspecies that can multitask much more than we possibly can - they're called moms.
ReplyDeletehow funny it is.. just before reading your blog i watched movie Lucy.. and its about accessing the full capacity of human brain.
ReplyDeleteI would agree with you .. instead of buildings things.. we should have build ourselves..
