The Secret

The Secret. No I haven't read the book or watched the movie and yes I am about to criticize it. All of my knowledge about the book's philosophy comes from a close friend who has it running through his veins. I entreat you to not fixate upon my vehement refutation of the philosophy and the antipathy of the object itself but upon the process I use, the more generic things, for that is reusable.
What I have learnt through my friend is that the main ideology of the book is 'what you think, very strongly believe, will happen. If they are negative thoughts, negative things will happen, if they are positive, positive'. I do not refute this. Not because i do not want to or I myself support it, but because it is not a theory to refute or support, it is a mere observation, which I myself have sometimes experienced.
On this observation, we can develop many postulates and theories. And then prove the one we are most predilected to. That is the genesis of our science. I have always thought that if there is an existence outside the realm of our knowledge, any super intelligent beings, the only thing that will confluence with theirs will be our maths. Not physics, not chemistry. Maths seem to me the only logical thing. Rest is based on observations that has too many variables in its equation. The things we understand or grasp, we formulate, and the rest is accredited to  randomness.

Anyway, the book accounts such observations to the waves which our minds produce and then allegedly interacts with the universe. Examples, a large group of people thinking good thoughts produced some physical visible waves in water and with bad thoughts produced some other kind of waves. A man gets a car-park if his thoughts are optimistic about it. If he truly believes he will get a parking space, he will get it. What total utter nonsense that is. I do not know the tone of their argument, but I sincerely hope they say something like, 'we did a comprehensive research and think that our thoughts interferes with the universe to give a result set. Being said that, it is anyhow, undeniably highly improbable'.
One should not be certain about these theories. If you said some years back that an object falls because our land exerts a force on it. I would have written a polemic blog  about that too. So even my theory, I do not consider with absolute certainty.

If you have experienced anything like that, your thoughts changing the course of the instance of universe that belongs to you, that too, too many times in your life, you are inclined to believe any plausible theory.

Consider this, you thoughts affect the actions you commit. Your state of mind, serene-ness, sanguinity etc. changes your actions and hence the universe's reaction. You can observe this in your daily life. Your thoughts is your will is your singularity. How they affect, their tools can sometimes be ambiguous. Like the optimistic driver may find a parking space because his mind is active, his eyes are always searching. On the other hand, the pessimistic will have phlegmatic actions and reflexes.

In my case, it was not about the parking space. I have to go little awry to explain this observation. There are free online courses of various universities, where you want to go but  can't. The professors are the vanguards of their respective  fields. And to be able to interact with them! Now this course-part-three I wanted to take, was starting in a month. I certainly have to complete the pre-requisites - the previous two parts to be able to take this course-part-three. And I am diligently studying the pre-requisites to be able to take the course-part-three, and the deadline is approaching. I don't give up and try to finish. Now, the universe seeing that I am not be able to finish the pre-requisites on time, postpones the third part of the course to a further date. A miracle! This is one of the many like observations.

See my actions for that month was focused on to something, so earnestly focused, that the sample-space of my action-reaction got reduced, I mean to say the chances of miracles to happen increased or rather, I should say the chances of me spotting a miracle, and valuing it, and raise it to standard of a miracle, increased. I would not have valued the postpone had I not been so engrossed in the course. But from a different point of view, the person doing the course perfunctorily did not saw it as a miracle, the postpone was a probable(commonplace) event, more probable than the event of pre-pone at least. People I tell this story to, won't be budged to consider it as a miracle, it is after all a commonplace event. But I perceive it as a change in the course of the path of universe, just for me!

So when you find universe helping you, opening all the doors for you, my modest friend that is you being earnest and diligent.

All being said, there is nothing wrong with adopting this philosophy, believing what you really want, you will get. You will, in the least, be always optimistic. It may directly or indirectly, elusively or clearly, improve your life. But I do stress upon that you do not get into the meta of it, do not theorize into some brain-waves stuff, because soon you may start taking it as an axiom, or start using it to derive other things.

The observation is important, the proof is not. Don't think if you carry a note with a one and some zeros written on it, you will eventually become a millionaire.
